I recently attended my grandson's wedding. This handsome young man is my daughter's first born. Twenty-six years ago she was engaged to be married, but as the wedding date grew closer she realized she really wasn’t in love with her fiancé. After a lot of talking and prayers, she decided to call off the wedding. A couple of months later she found out she was pregnant. Again there was a great deal of talking and praying, and many tears were shed before a decision was made for adoption.
She never gave
up hope of one day being reunited with her son. I
don’t want to go into all the details of the adoption
and his life at this time, but the Lord was in it
all the way. Eighteen months ago my daughter and her son
were
reunited—just in time for his wedding. How good is
our God!
The wedding was held in North Carolina and we live in Florida. Of course, we both wanted to go and be a part of this great event. Since she didn’t raise her son, she wasn’t expecting to be in the wedding party. We were just excited to be invited as guests.
We arrived in North Carolina the afternoon of the rehearsal, just in time to settle into our room, grab a bite to eat, and get to the church. We arrived late and were quickly ushered into the church and told to take our place in the wedding party. The kindness the adopted parents showed toward us was a complete surprise. While we were excited about the wedding, my daughter was a little distraught. Everyone in the wedding party would be in formal attire, and she only brought with her a pants suit. She knew she didn’t have the time or money to buy a dress.
When we got back to the hotel, I told her we could go shopping for a dress and I was sure the Lord would work it all out. The next day we got an early start, found a mall and she started trying on dresses. The first three dresses didn’t make the cut. The fourth was a great dress—a satin two piece, but the top was a little too tight. She really liked the design and color, but I knew she wouldn’t be comfortable in it. I left the dressing room in search of another dress similar to the one she wanted. I found a top and then a skirt. It was satin, form fitting, and pink champagne in color. It reminded me of the dresses they wore in 1940s. The skirt was priced at $200 but marked down to $100. The top was also $200, but not marked down.
Our time was running out and even though she had found her dress, the money wasn’t there. I told her to give me the dress and I would see if the salesperson could mark it down some more. My daughter didn’t think that would happen, but I told her with God all things are possible. I found the salesperson, gave her the outfit and asked if she would please check to see if we could get another discount. I went to the ladies' room, and on my way back I heard my daughter laughing. As I rounded the corner, she yelled out to me, "Mom, you’re not going to believe this. Oh well, maybe you will." Still laughing and partly crying, she told me the salesperson had marked this $400 outfit down to ... are you ready for this, ladies? This beautiful satin formal dress that didn’t have anything wrong with it was marked down to $50. Not $200, not $150. Not even $100, but $50. Praise God! I knew our Heavenly Father would take care of us, and He did in such a wonderful way.
Needless to say, the wedding was beautiful and so was my daughter. The Lord had truly been gracious to a young girl who twenty-six years ago had a difficult decision to make. He poured out His love toward her and her son and answered their prayers. He proved to her that even in her mistake, He could make it right. My grandson and his wife live here, and he is the youth pastor at his church. Truly, the love of God can't be measured.
I pray this testimony will give you hope for the things you have prayed for. The Lord does answer prayers because He loves you, not because you are good enough. We can’t buy His love or His gifts. He only requires that we trust Him with every part of our lives.
