A Godly Man

father and sonA godly man I want to be
So that my son will always see
God’s love shining through me.

With His example as my guide
Following Him who for me died
As my son’s steps follow my stride

A humble man I wish to live
And thus onto my son to give
A picture of our Lord.

A faithful man I’ll strive to be
So that my son will see in me
The image of our God.

A man who’s godly, faithful, humble
Even though at times I stumble
Can begin each day anew

And when I’ve tried my best to be
The man I know God wants to see
For my sins I’ll repent.

When my son sees me on my knees
And hears me ask: “Forgive me, please”
I pray he’ll do the same.

May I always point him to God
As in my footsteps he may trod
Our Father’s will to seek.
