Caring Confrontation

friendsMy friend told me her secret sin
She doesn’t think it’s wrong
I want to do what’s best for her
Since we’ve been friends so long.

I could just overlook it
Pretend I didn’t hear
But I must do what’s best for me
So my conscience is clear.

First I must seek guidance
So fervent prayers ascend
Dear Lord, I want to word it right
And keep her as my friend.

To confront or to condone
Is the choice I have to make
There is no middle ground
When a soul’s at stake.

If I speak the truth in love
Mindful of the cost
And we cease to be friends
What have I lost?

If I don’t speak the truth
And she’s still my friend
I must bear that burden
So what have I gained?

I finally did confront her
I did it lovingly
I pray that she will turn from sin
And still will my friend be.

I thank You, Lord for hearing me
This lasting truth I’ve learned:
True friends correct each other
And thus respect is earned.

Now, Lord I ask for Your help
To accept it graciously
If it comes time for my friend
In love to confront me.
