Cord of Three Strands

weddingWhen two hearts come before the Lord
And marriage vows are spoken
Their two lives are twined into
A cord not to be broken.

How wise the two who add onto
This cord that they’ve begun
A third strand—that of Jesus
Who binds them into one.

This three strand cord includes the Lord
Though tested be its strength
It shall not break, but shall endure
Their union’s entire length.

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
—Ecclesiastes 4:12
