The day has its beginning and its end.
Human nature has Adam's good works and fleshly sin.
Math has its lowest common denominator,
They body its senses and beauty its favor.
Thermodynamics had its first and second law;
The ant his hundred-fold strength, the lion his mighty
jaw.
History has its volumes and record books;
Nature a glory that beckons second looks.
Species have their own particular kind;
We humans have our finite but creative mind.
Love has its Supreme Author;
the tempter has his delectable offer.
Hate has its victim and its master;
Resurrection its hope of God's hereafter.
Truth has its piercing victory,
Scoffers only cynical mimicry.
Children have innocent eyes and fearless trust;
Law has its necessities and its musts.
Good has it obvious effect
And a job well done its own respect.
The dream has its ambition that won't be stilled;
Knowledge has insatiable hunger to be filled.
All of these are absolute proof to me
Of the Creator's sound certainty.
But of greater witness is the cross and its sign
That shouts to all ages, "I am His and He is mine."
