"I Don't Want To Go"

Dear Misty,

My husband and I are strapped a bit financially. We have enough to pay our bills each month but not a lot extra. We have four children and one more on the way. Recently my husband was offered a job with a substantial pay raise. The promotion would require a move and I REALLY do not want to move. Like I said, we have four children and have lived in this home since the second was born. Both sets of grandparents live in the same town we do and most family is within two or three hours drive. We would be moving 14 hours from our current home.

On top of that, the job offer is with a different firm and although he would be making more money he would be at the bottom of the food chain, if you will.

My husband is dead set on taking the job and I just feel awful about it. He has dollar signs in his eyes and is refusing to look at anything else. I just do not think this is where the LORD is leading us. HELP!!!

Sincerely,
Don’t Want to Go!!

Dear Don’t Want To,

First let me tell you that I empathize with you. I know that the unknown is scary and the thought of leaving our comfort zone can often make us fighting mad.

In your letter you stated that “he is refusing to look at anything else” so I gather you have talked to him about how you feel. Have you prayed together about this decision? If not, that is the first thing you should do.

If you have been praying, be mindful that you are praying for God’s guidance on the matter and not just praying that your husband sees things your way.

If after much prayer and petition your husband is still set on moving, then there is only one thing you can do. Submit and move. Even if this move is not God's will, one fact remains. We are called to be a helpmate and we are commanded to respect our husband. So when it comes down to it, your family will be blessed by your submitting to your husband.

Hope that helps. My prayers are with you!

In Christ’s Love,
Misty
