Since our family is a homeschooling family, it is our opportunity and obligation to teach our kids the truth. We do not isolate our children from the world, yet we insulate and protect them from it.
There are some areas like the teaching of secular thought, homosexuality (or any sexuality at a young age), or evolution, that many Christians fear their child learning in public schools. We are going against the grain. Yes believe it, we do! We will fully teach our children details of all of this at the appropriate time. They will learn why people believe or act in different ways, and the repercussions that follow. We believe that when we are obedient we receive blessing, but when we are disobedient we receive curse. God wants to bless us and I want Him to bless my children.
For science our children will fully understand Creationism. They will understand that their parents fully believe it as fact. God created everything and to Him all glory be given (Soli Deo Gloria). They will also fully understand Darwin’s theory of evolution. They will understand what leads people to believe it, the God-hate behind much of its adherence, how unproven it is, and therefore how dubious it is. We will fully verse them in all the details of both so that if they attend college they will not be a fish out of water, but fully able to stand their ground based on their faith in God and an extraordinary foundation of scientific knowledge.
It is really necessary to prepare them for the world. We can’t protect them forever, but at an appropriate time we can tell them about things of the world and how destructive some choices and mindsets are. We can tell them the only truth is found in the Lord, and with that blessing.
We cannot always make our children’s choices for them. But through homeschooling and Christian discipleship in our home, they will understand God’s truth. If they rebel against it, I will be in prayer over them in hope that they return. With the truth in the back of their mind I will hope that they will remember where true fulfillment is, and return as a prodigal.
