It’s Just the Way It Is

The latest rendition of me
Is shorter, fuller, and older than I used to be
It’s just the way it is.

My hair is thinning,
Weight is winning,
It’s just the way it is.

Gone are the days of cute, taut, and tight
When calories and cholesterol were never a fight.
It’s just the way it is.

Although the pluses and minuses of life
Are in closer proximity and strife
It’s just the way it is.

Yes, I’m wider in girth and slower in gait
And patience is still a virtue on which I work and wait,
It’s just the way it is.

But as for faith, peace, wisdom and strength
They measure in my life now in greater length,
It’s just the way it is.

No claim
Except to the cross and His Name
It’s just the way it is.

When life is spent leaning on Jesus in forgiveness and grace,
Living by faith and finding my place,
It’s just the way it is.

His love overpowers my own
My surrender means I’ve grown
It’s just the way it is.

Hallelujah! I love it just the way it is!
